Treasurers Report
You will recall that we recently went out to our BIA to remind them of the importance of supporting the ongoing operations of our "Black Knights" organization. It is hard to believe that it has been (53) years since the 3rd Squadron 5th Cavalry arrived in RVN. While we all feel that we are forever young, the facts belie that assumption and will continue to have an adverse effect on our revenue stream, and by extension, may influence our operations in a negative way. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who responded by submitting their dues for the period September 2019 threw September 2021. Your immediate response is indicative of your support of the "Black Knights". As we move into 2020, we will be dealing with changes in the federal tax law that changed the standard deduction to $24,400.00 for those filing jointly. This will mean that upwards of 70% of filers will not itemize deductions! However, you will still be able to make direct contributions from your IRA/401-K to the Black Knights. This means that a withdrawal in this manner will not count as income thus bypassing the need to itemize. However, I encourage you to consult with your tax advisor for an official ruling on how this process works. During 2019, we have gained 58 new Life Memberships, 138 members have either renewed or became new members. If you haven't paid your dues yet, please use the membership form drop down below for submission your of dues. We would especially like to express our appreciation for those BIAs that went beyond the call of duty with their generous donations to the general fund. And, we would like to encourage others that are able to do the same.
